Welcome to "Phil's Loco Photos"

We started a four week trip to South America flying out via Washington and Miami to Lima where we started our trip. We went to Cuzco and naturally did the narrow gauge line to Machu Picchu and then the standard gauge line to Puno. However a derailment saw our train get terminated at Juliaca for a bus to Puno. We then flew to Arequipa (taking twenty minutes) and had one night there. The next night we took the overnight train with a “cling on” MLW DL560 652 back to Juliaca. Late running saw us having to get off at Juliaca again and wait for the return train to Puno. Most unhappy when we found it was the same set of stock and we could have easily gone to Puno! And of course it was our pet 652 yet again. Once back in Cuzco we then flew to Lima and that would have then been a trip to Huancayo but the passenger service had been suspended. We then flew to Buenos Aires for three weeks of rivalling in Argentina and one night in Uruguay where we were very lucky to find two of their Alco 244 engine “Shovel Noses” out on the trains to 25 de Agosto. Lots of Alco, GM and a bit of GE action over out time in Argentina, the ex RENFE 313s getting a lot of our attention! We flew back via New York and had a day on the Hudson line with top GE Genesis power!
