Welcome to "Phil's Loco Photos"

A two week trip to Peru, my flights were with Varig via Sao Paulo, just giving me a new country in the book. My first full day in Lima was with local a railfan and we took a taxi to Chosica station and the main offices of the FVCA (Ferrocarril Central Andino), later in day we got a lift back into town on a freight. Next day was quiet day in town and then met up with others flying out to join me for rest of trip. We flew to Cusco to travel on the Perurail train to Machu Picchu and luckily managed different locos out and back. Our next journey was the 386 km run from Cusco - Puno with MLW built 653 making lots of smoke. After a night in Cusco we flew back to Lima and got prepared to ride the train to Huancayo next day. This was the highlight of the trip, big GE power over the highest rail journey in the world! The ascent was just fantastic, numerous switchbacks and at the summit Alco 608 took over! Once in Huancayo we checked into hotel for three nights. We rode the narrow gauge train from Huancayo - Huancavelica and had to return by taxi as the train didn't run, but at least we did it! Next day we did a return trip to Izcuchaca on the narrow gauge, and then were at the depot at Chilca when 608 was ready to head back through the streets, making a great taxi for us! Our journey back to Lima was with Alco power throughout. Last full day in Lima was spent using the Metro service that operates between Atocongo and Villa El Salvador and then the park railway at Surco. I managed a quick visit to the Callao depot in Lima before flying home via Brasil
